Mission

Our mission is to develop the language and literacy skills for employability of immigrant women who have lived in Canada a long time and who desire to enter or re-enter the workforce. Our classroom environment will empower and enrich our learners and will stress the total development of each woman: intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

Admissions Criteria

  1. Immigrant woman
  2. Unemployed
  3. In Canada at least two years, preferably five years or longer
  4. Receiving support from Employment Manitoba (E.M.) or Employment and Income Assistance (E.I.A.)
  5. Literacy needs
  6. Canadian Language Benchmarks 3+ in listening/speaking and 2-4 in reading and writing
  7. Employment or job-skills training goal

Program

  1. Computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, email, and the internet
  2. Workplace health and safety
  3. Basic WHMIS certification
  4. Workplace culture and ethics
  5. Job search strategies and skills
  6. Workplace standards
  7. Literacy and the Essential Skills
  8. Personal development

Referral Process

All referrals to our program must go through the Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre (WELARC). 400-275 Portage Ave. Tel: 943-5387 Click here for further information.

Following a referral from WELARC, prospective students are invited for an interview. If they are accepted, they must then be approved by E.M. or E.I.A.
